More than forty years after the first store opening in New York, Bulgari has renewed its love for this vibrant city with the restyling of the 5th Avenue store, now featuring a new architectural design concept especially developed by Peter Marino. Found in one of Manhattan’s most central locations, on the corner between 5th Avenue and 57th Street, the new store occupies 308 square metres of the outer façade of the Crown Building, making it a true landmark of New York.
Symbolically relocated from the Eternal City to New York, the Condotti door represents the starting point of a journey into the essence of the Bulgari way of life. A hand-crafted replica of the lantern hanging over the entrance of the Roman flagship store complements this reproduction.
The interplay between old and new marks the special affinity between Peter Marino and Bulgari, and defines the bold character of this store: it is a sapient blend of ancient and contemporary, a play of ambiguities between structural elements and decoration, a true journey back into the brand’s 130-year-long history.
Like during a walk through the sun-kissed city of Rome, a bright central promenade welcomes the visitor. With the star-patterned white Lasa marble mosaic on the floor, two oval shaped counters in light galvanised iron - inspired by the renowned Italian architect Carlo Scarpa – and two chandeliers by Italian architect Gio Ponti, this environment is dominated by light.
Inspired by the contrast of New York’s vibrant day and night, the 308-square-metre façade is designed as a permeable layer, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces with a geometric play of shadows and lights.
The store is designed like an Italian theatre: the mezzanine floor evokes the structure of a balcony, where visitors contemplate the colourful, geometric architectural elements, and the stars of the show, the magnificent jewels.
The New York store stands out with its open spaces. Through the use of specific materials, each corner echoes a particular atmosphere, creating a multifaceted journey into Bulgari’s rich history. With the brightness of Roman sunlight, Imperial Saffron fabrics adorn the Condotti showcases, brightening the heart of the store.
The warm tones of Imperial Saffron fabrics define the sparkling atmosphere of the High Jewellery area. Right below the balcony of the mezzanine, the intimate atmosphere feels more private. Comfortable seats complete the interior décor of this area, acting as an invitation to take one’s time for an unforgettable Bulgari experience.
The Accessories area is a tribute to the 1970’s and to the Italian designers of this vibrant decade, such as Carlo Scarpa and Angelo Mangiarotti. This area is characterised by walnut flooring realised with remarkable Italian craftsmanship skills: the wood is dried with sunlight at different points in time and then assembled on site to create a distinctive dégradé effect.
The iconic design of the Pantheon Mesh surrounds the architectural staircase, connecting Rome, London and New York. The hexagonal steps are crafted in a marble whose rich brown veins appear to run down the stairs like a waterfall. The magnificent staircase leads to the most glamorous and exclusive area of the store: the VIP lounge.
The VIP Area on the mezzanine floor evokes the charm of the Salottino Taylor, the lounging room at via Condotti in Rome, where Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor spent many hours after fleeing from the paparazzi through a secret door in the Palazzo. In this space, the atmosphere of the 1960s is recreated by vintage armchairs inspired by Osvaldo Borsani, coffee tables in onyx, and rich carpets designed especially for the store.
In a quest for perfection, the store is crafted like an exquisite jewel: from passionate creativity, to the most sophisticated materials and highest craftsmanship, each detail reflects Bulgari’s ability in sculpting beauty in all its forms.

Inspired by a Bulgari heritage bracelet's clasp from the 30es, the “Rosetta” motif blooms on the outer facade with 1891 hand-made bronzed flowers.
Adorning the transparent facade with a geometric play of lights and shadows, the bronzed “Losanga” - a typically Italian pattern – exquisitely blends into the exterior decorations of the Crown Building.
The theatricality of space, with a vast open space overlooked by a balcony, evokes the structure of Italian theaters, showcasing the jewels at the center of a luminous imaginary stage.
The prominent chandelier designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti, celebrates light as an almost structural and tangible element of the store, kissing with brilliance the central promenade.
A conceptual connection between Rome, London and New York, the architectural staircase mirrors with exquisite light effects the iconic Pantheon Mesh.
A piece of Rome at the very heart of New York, the distinctive design of the Pantheon Mesh reinterprets the floor of one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of all times.
