Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection
For the first time outside Europe, the legendary Torlonia Marbles - the largest private collection of Imperial Roman sculptures preserved to date - are on view at the Art Institute of Chicago from March 15 to June 29, 2025. As a major patron of Fondazione Torlonia since 2017, Bvlgari has supported the restoration of over 150 statues from the Collection to date, further amplifying its deep commitment to art and patronage.
An Unprecedented Journey
From large-scale figures of gods and goddesses to portraits of emperors and magnificent funerary monuments, this unprecedented North American tour showcases 58 highlights from the Torlonia Collection, including 25 works that have never been on view in modern times. Organized into six thematic sections, the exhibition sheds light on the unlimited potential of the Collection, which can be discovered under different perspectives and narratives, in a continuous cycle of eternal rebirth.
Patron of Artistic Heritage
United by a shared passion for art and collecting, the Torlonia Foundation and Fondazione Bvlgari have joined forces to undertake the conservation of the Torlonia Marbles, ensuring their lasting historic and aesthetic significance while safeguarding these masterpieces for future generations. This enduring partnership is part of the Roman Maison's broader commitment to cultural projects and artistic patronage, sustaining numerous initiatives to preserve Rome’s infinite creative heritage.
The Fondazione Torlonia was founded at the behest of Prince Alessandro Torlonia with the aim of preserving and promoting both the Torlonia Collection—the most prestigious private collection of Greek-Roman sculptures in the world—and Villa Albani Torlonia, one of the highest expressions of eighteenth-century taste. Through conservation, research, exhibitions, educational programs, and publications, the Foundation is committed to enhancing public understanding of classical antiquity and actively contributing to the global dialogue on art, history, and preservation.
