GÉRALD GENTA AND BVLGARI: A STORY OF WATCHMAKING GENIUS
Founded in 1969 by the namesake designer and watch master genius, the brand Gérald Genta has been acquired by Bvlgari in 2000. In the last two decades, the company’s inestimable savoir-faire has served as a driving force for Bvlgari to establish itself in the top league of high-end Swiss watchmakers.
GÉRALD GENTA: A LEGENDARY DESIGNER
Visionary watchmaker and designer, Gérald Genta left a legacy of iconic designs. Not only did he pioneer genre-defining sporty chic models and Grand Complication timepieces, but he also introduced new ways to read time with his retrograde and bi-retrograde movements. And yet, he never forgot his sense of playfulness, infusing the art of watchmaking with his rule-breaking attitude.
1994: ORCHESTRATING THE GRAND SONNERIE
The brilliant mind behind some of the most unique and ultra-complicated timepieces ever realized, Gérald Genta introduced the Grand Sonnerie watch in 1994. A piece of staggering complexity, its sophisticated chiming mechanism represents one of the ultimate strongholds of horological tradition.
1996: THE FIRST RETROGRADE WATCH
A veritable turning point in the history of horlogerie, the original Arena watch was the first retrograde watch on the market flaunting the unforeseen combination of jumping hours and retrograde minutes. A rare, complex and exacting mechanism that represents a triumph of precision and know-how.
2000: GÉRALD GENTA AND BVLGARI
In the year 2000, the Gérald Genta brand was acquired by Bvlgari — and its teams and knowledge were subsequently integrated into the Bvlgari watches manufacture at Le Sentier. The decades of expertise engendered in this incorporation helped lay the foundation for Bvlgari as an unrivalled force in the world of haute horlogerie.
2019: THE ARENA

1. Chunky and unmistakably round, the new Arena case conserves the spirit of the famous original model with its smooth, wide and curved bezel.
2. More modern, more vertical, more visible: the numeral markers have been refreshed with ultra-contemporary appeal.
3. In a nod to the architectural character of the Arena design, the crown itself features a rounded structure and the same notched base as the watch’s case.
