Bulgari & Oxford University building a virus-free future

Bvlgari is proud to embark on a new relationship with Oxford University to accelerate COVID-19 vaccine development and nurture the world’s brightest scientific talent working to prevent future pandemics.

The partnership with University of Oxford’s Jenner Institute consists of a two-fold donation, comprising an immediate financial contribution to be invested in the scientists at the heart of vaccine research, and the creation of the Bvlgari Scholarship to fund PhD studies in epidemiology. Emergency vaccine development in particular is a key pillar of Oxford’s reputation, thanks to a combination of scientific expertise and agile response and technical capabilities usually only found in pharmaceutical companies. Yet the University’s programme to rapidly develop a vaccine against COVID-19 – making Oxford’s vaccine trial one of the most advanced in the world – brings with it the need for equally ambitious and boundary-pushing scientific equipment.

Bvlgari’s gift of graduate scholarships will enable Oxford to continue to attract the brightest minds, regardless of nationality and financial background – the next generation of top talent to power Oxford’s world-leading position in vaccine research, during COVID-19 and beyond.

This donation is the next step in Bulgari’s pledge to build a virus-free future. This began in February 2020 with a donation to the Spallanzani Hospital in Rome for the purchase of a new state-of-the-art 3D high-definition microscope to allow better understanding of virus dynamics and promote vaccine development. Bulgari subsequently converted its fragrance production to the sole manufacture of medical-grade hand sanitiser, which was donated to support frontline medical staff throughout Italy, Switzerland and the UK.
